Cornea

The cornea is the clear window at the front of your eye. It covers the iris and pupil, which are the colored part and black hole in the center of your eye. The cornea lets light into your eye and helps focus it onto the retina, which is the light-sensitive tissue at the back of your eye. Sometimes, the cornea can have problems that make it hard to see.

Causes of Corneal Conditions:

  • Corneal Injuries:Trauma to the eye, such as scratches, cuts, or foreign bodies, can damage the cornea. The cornea is the clear front part of the eye that helps to focus light. When the cornea is injured, it can become cloudy or scarred, which can lead to blurry vision or other problems.
  • Infections:Bacteria, viruses, and fungi can infect the cornea, leading to keratitis.
  • Corneal Dystrophies:Genetic factors can lead to abnormal alterations in the cornea, giving rise to conditions like Fuchs’ dystrophy or lattice dystrophy.
  • Corneal Ulcers:Open sores on the cornea, frequently triggered by infections or severe dry eye, can result in ulcers and impaired vision.
  • Keratoconus:This condition entails the cornea becoming thinner and bulging, leading to distorted vision.
